A Collective Voice for Women

A Memoir Featuring 18 Women & HERstory

“The power of a book’s cover is that at first glance, it only reveals merely a glimpse of what you will find in the interior, much like a first impression of someone. For the whole story, you must open the book, read the chapters, and like with the overlapping petals of a peony, explore the layers that the main character has experienced: the journey of great moments, heartaches, victories, and defeats. It is only then that you might have a better understanding of who that person is at their core.”

~ Writing HERstory, Prologue

What’s On the Back?

It’s a girl thing . . .

To know and share our histories and stories is to know and understand aspects of the female experience. The journeys and pathways we have walked, the triumphs and tragedies and how they all come together to paint a picture—those are our shared experiences. That is when you can connect the dots along our timelines and see the pattern.

In Writing HERstory, Ashley Lougheed uncovers the power of women’s stories, and they are more alike than different. Regardless of dark or light times, the female experience is universal. We know the pain of trial and defeat and have faced internal and external challenges of all kinds.

We’ve experienced catcalls, sister wounds, impostor syndrome, and limiting beliefs. But we also know how to problem solve, how to dig deep into ourselves to find our grit. We know the power and truth of women supporting women, and we recognize the value of leaning on our soul sisters for support.

Part memoir, part collaboration, Writing HERstory portrays the many rites and passages of being a woman. Here, Ashley connects the dots of our stories to discover that while the pattern may change in its details and in female to female, the concrete evidence is strong: the pattern starts with acknowledging and celebrating our own self-worth and the worth of all women.

It’s a new age of sisterhood.

This was the start of her writing journey and the first bridge that she created for women to share openly our bravest, most vulnerable, and powerful stories. Like artist and author Morgan Harper Nichols says, “Tell the story of the mountain you climbed. Your words could become a page in someone else’s survival guide.”

In the New Year, 2024, Ashley is creating a space for women to rise their hand and say, “write my story.” A new book & project is already under way and this is your opportunity to say YES to you & be a part of the HERstory movement!
